Everett lacrosse celebrates Sr. Night with 13-4 win over Revere
The Everett High lacrosse team celebrated Senior Night in appropriate fashion with a 13-4 victory over Revere last Friday.
The win represented a nice rebound for the Crimson Tide after having come up short by a score of 10-9 to Malden the night before.
“We faced a tough 10-9 loss against Malden in a hard-fought game,” said EHS head coach Nicola Jones. Amanda Verteiro led the offense with four goals, followed by Nicole Damaceno with two, while Melissa Meireles, Isabela Bicalho, and Isabella Aguirre Jimenez each added a goal.
“Although it was a difficult loss and a game we felt we could have won, the team responded in the best possible way the very next day on Senior Night,” Jones said. “It was our final home game of the season and we played our strongest game yet, earning the 13-4 victory over Revere.”
The trio of Aguirre Jimenez, Damaceno, and Verteiro each scored a hat trick to lead the Everett offense. Jacky Ramos, Laura Alves Dos Santos, Saline Duck, and MariaJose Cardenas all reached the back of the Revere net for a goal apiece.
“It was an incredible team effort and a special night celebrating our 13 seniors: Nicole Damaceno, Amanda Verteiro, Lindsey Cherichel-Paul, Isabela Bicalho, Briana Sequeira, Saline Duck, Fanny Lopez-Portillo, Isabella Aguirre Jimenez, Jackeline Ramos, Annia Blaise Raccie, Ildha Fevrier, Alexandra Schmidt, and Bevena Milfort,” said Jones. “We are so proud of everything they have brought to this program and wish them nothing but success moving forward.”
The Tide closed out their season last week against Mystic Valley and came up on the short end of a 7-4 decision.
“Despite the 7-4 loss, the team played one of their strongest and most-determined games of the year,” said Jones. “Going into the matchup already a player down and exhausted from a long season, the athletes never once gave up. They fought for every ground ball, supported one another on both ends of the field, and truly left everything they had out there.”
Amanda Verteiro led the offense with two goals, while Isabella Aguirre Jimenez and Saline Duck each added a goal.
“While the scoreboard did not fall in our favor, the resilience, growth, and teamwork this group showed throughout the season was something to be incredibly proud of,” Jones added. “This team finished the season stronger, closer, and better than where they started, and that says more than any final score ever could. It was a great season filled with growth, heart, and unforgettable moments, and we are so proud of every athlete for everything they gave to this program. We are excited to see what next season brings and know the future of this team is bright.”
Everett flag football continues to play hard
A shorthanded Everett High flag football team put up a spirited battle in its two contests last Thursday evening despite coming out on the short end vs. St. Mary’s of Lynn (24-8) and Essex Tech (36-18) at Pentucket High School.
“We played short-handed as we had a sports banquet at school,” said EHS head coach Duane Sigsbury. “We played really hard in both games and competed like champions.
“Nicaea Legal was awesome on both sides of the ball with two interceptions and two TD receptions,” said Sigsbury. “Ju Ju Rivera was great at quarterback and made some great plays at safety. Katherine Venegas had five catches from the center position.”
The Tide were scheduled to wrap up their season last night (Tuesday) with contests vs. KIPP Academy and Triton in Salem.
EHS softball team holds Teacher Appreciation Night
The Everett High softball team wrapped up its 2026 season this past Friday with a Teacher Appreciation Night in which each of the players recognized teachers who have made a difference in their lives.
“Before the game, each player gave a teacher a softball with a message written on it about how that teacher made a difference in their life,” said EHS head coach Stacy Poste-Schiavo. “Some thanked teachers for always supporting them, believing in them, or helping them through tough times. It was a special moment that showed how much the players appreciated the impact their teachers have had on them both in and out of the classroom.”
Although the Lady Crimson Tide came out on the short end of an 18-4 decision, Poste-Schiavo cited the positives in her team’s effort.
“Cambridge came out swinging early, but the girls kept battling the whole game,” said Poste-Schiavo. “Arianna Osorio-Bonilla (a triple) and Olivia Dresser (two triples) gave us some big hits, and Lindsey Sylva and Bianca Moran-Leal made a few nice plays defensively. Even when we got down, the team kept competing and never stopped working.”
Last Wednesday, the Tide rolled past Somerville, 23-10. Victoria Cutler picked up the win, tossing six innings and allowing only five hits and six earned runs, while striking out six and walking three.
Everett scored three runs in the top of the first, with the key hit coming on a two-run double by Lindsey Sylva. The Tide then exploded for eight runs in the second, with doubles by Bianca Moran-Leal and McKenzie Rivera accounting for most of the damage in an inning in which the Tide drew six bases-on-balls.
Everett added four more runs in the fourth, the key hit coming on a two-run double by Morgan Salvi. In the fifth, an RBI triple by Juliette Romboli helped increase the Everett lead to 18-8. The Tide then brought on the mercy rule in the sixth with five runs, thanks to a two-RBI base hit by Moran-Leal and RBI hits by Sylva, Dresser, and Romboli
““We had a great team win,” said Poste-Schiavo. “The girls stayed focused, kept hitting the ball, and played hard the whole game. Lindsey Sylva, Bianca Moran-Leal, Juliette Romboli, and Olivia Dresser all came up with big plays for us offensively, while Victoria Cutler gave us a solid game in the circle. I was happy with the way the team responded every time Somerville tried to come back and kept the pressure on until the final inning.”
The Tide finished the season with an overall record of 9-11 and were 8-6 in the Greater Boston League, good for fourth place behind undefeated league champ Medford and Revere and Lynn Classical, who tied for second with 11-3 marks.
Girls tennis team concludes season
Although the Everett High girls tennis team came up short on its final two matches of the season vs. Mystic Valley and Peabody last week, head coach Courtney Meninger saw a lot of positive development by her team throughout 2026.
“This season was marked by tremendous effort and improvement from beginning to end,” said Meninger. “The players consistently demonstrated resilience, determination, and support for one another both in matches and at practice. “Although we fell short in our final two matches against Mystic Valley and Peabody, the team continued to compete with energy and pride until the very end,” Meninger continued. “I am incredibly proud of all of our players for their willingness to step into different roles and do whatever was needed for the team throughout the season.
“We are especially grateful for our seniors and the impact they made on the program,” the coach added. “Their leadership, commitment, and encouragement helped set the tone for the entire team, and they will certainly be missed next season. At the same time, we are excited about the returning players and the valuable experience they gained this year. We look forward to continuing to improve and building on the foundation that was established this season.”
