EHS boys play well in tourney loss to BC High
Although the Everett High boys basketball team came up on the short of a 67-56 decision at B.C. High in the opening round of the MIAA Division 1 state tournament last Monday, EHS head coach Gerry Boyce was proud of his team’s effort.
Everett entered the tourney as the #38 seed with a 10-10 record, qualifying for the tourney with clutch victories in their final two games of the regular season to capture the Dudley Davenport Tourney in Sharon. The B.C. High Eaglets were the #27 seed with an 8-12 mark.
“It was a tough loss,” said Boyce, whose Crimson Tide led after the first quarter and at the half and only trailed by two points heading into the final period. “I was truly inspired by the performances of Henrique Pinto, who shined brightly with 22 points, and Geordiell Luna, who contributed 12 points. While we didn’t receive the scoring support we needed from the rest of the team in the second half, there is still so much to be proud of.
“The atmosphere was electric,” Boyce continued, “making it a memorable experience for our seniors, Geordiell Luna, Henrique Pinto, Richardson Lamerique, Jevaun Berberena, and Tyson Chhun. They have laid the groundwork for a culture of accountability that emphasizes character and academic excellence above everything else.
“This journey transcends the game of basketball,” Boyce added. “It’s about personal growth, teamwork, and building strong values. The legacy our seniors are leaving will continue to inspire future players and shape the future of Everett High basketball as we build on this incredible culture and develop our team for the future, and strive for greatness in all aspects of life.”
