New Season, New Coach for Everett Field Hockey

The Everett High field hockey program will be under the direction of a new head coach this season.

Sabrina Wright, an EHS grad (Class of 2015) who played for four years with the Lady Crimson Tide program (including the memorable 2014 squad that qualified for the state tourney for the first time for the program in 15 years,) succeeds Melissa O’Donnell, who stepped down from the post in the off-season.

Nicola Jones and Taylor Woodbury will assist Wright with the coaching duties.

“In addition to field hockey, I also played other sports in high school, but field hockey has always been my number one,” said Wright, who played for a year at UMass-Dartmouth before transferring to Suffolk University. “It’s always been my dream to come back to EHS and give back to this school and community.”

Members of the 2023 varsity roster are: seniors Taisha Alexandre, Stephany Desouza, Isabella  Barbosa, and Malaica Guilaume; juniors Jasmine Salvador, Ricardo Contreras Chacon, Caden Sylva, Meghan Currie, Luiza Velev, Jonathan Scioletti; sophomores Jasmin Thrower and Lindsey Sylva; and freshmen Justin Contreras Chacon and Wilins Julien.

“We have a very small team, so we are actively looking for new players,” Wright added. “Looking forward as head coach, it’s my goal to expand the program to 8th graders and next spring I am trying to start a youth program in the city of Everett so that in the future we have players coming on who already have an idea of how the game is played.”

Wright and her crew are set to open their season next Wednesday (September 6) with a contest at home against Waltham at 7-Acre Park. With only two other Greater Boston League (GBL) schools (Revere and Malden) fielding a field hockey program, Wright and her crew arguably face the most challenging schedule of all of the EHS fall sports teams.

They will face GBL foes Malden and Revere twice each, with the balance of their 17-game schedule against a number of non-league opponents, including Waltham, Haverhill, Northeast Regional, Wakefield, Greater Lowell, Melrose, and Peabody.

EHS Soccer Teams Open Season Tuesday

The Everett High boys and girls soccer teams will kick off their 2023 season next Tuesday, with the boys hosting Somerville at 7-Acre Park at 4:15 and the girls traveling to Somerville.

The boys will play an 18-game schedule consisting of 14 matches against their seven Greater Boston League (GBL) rivals (Somerville, Malden, Medford, Chelsea,  Revere, Lynn Classical, and Lynn English) and four non-league tilts vs. Greater Lowell Tech (twice), Belmont, and B.C. High.

The girls have a 17-game schedule. In addition to the 14 contests with their GBL foes, the Lady Crimson Tide will meet non-league opponents Cambridge Rindge & Latin, Lowell High, and Stoneham.

EHS Volleyball Team Opens Its Season Wednesday

The Everett High girls volleyball team will open its 2023 campaign next Wednesday (September 6)  with a contest at Greater Boston League (GBL) rival Revere.

The Lady Crimson Tide will tackle a 15-game schedule, playing each of their seven GBL foes (Somerville, Malden, Medford, Chelsea,  Revere, Lynn Classical, and Lynn English) twice each with one non-league contest with New Mission High School of Boston at the end of the season.
