EHS Spring Sports Season Gets Underway

Everett High athletes jumped into the spring sports season this past week, barely a few days after the Fall II season came to an end.

The pandemic-shortened season essentially will take place over the next three weeks, with all of the EHS varsity teams playing a schedule of six-to-seven games against their fellow schools in the Greater Boston League.

The EHS baseball team opened its season this past Monday against Revere, coming up on the short end of an 8-1 decision.

The Crimson Tide fell behind their rivals from the Beach City, 4-0, in the opening inning thanks to three walks.

Brandon Gibbs got Everett on the board with an RBI double in the bottom

half of the first, but that would prove to be as close as the Tide would get the rest of the day.

Sophomore Omar Marshall was a bright spot for coach Joel Levine’s squad, allowing no earned runs in his two and two-thirds innings of work.

Levine and his crew are scheduled to play at Medford today (Wednesday), at Somerville tomorrow, and at Malden next Wednesday.

The EHS softball team dropped a heartbreaking contest to Revere, 5-4, in its season-opener on Monday.

The Lady Crimson Tide took a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the seventh and had two outs with no runners on base, but Revere strung together four consecutive hits to push across the tying and winning tallies.

Coach Stacy Schiavo and her squad are scheduled to host Medford today (Wednesday) at 4:00, Somerville tomorrow at 4:30, and Malden next Wednesday at 4:00. All games will be at Glendale Park.

The EHS boys tennis team will start its season today (Wednesday) against Medford. Coach Gregory Blusestein greeted a strong turnout of 13 players for the 2021 campaign. A trio of captains, Nam Tran, Jeffrey Delgado, and Tyler Huynh, will lead the squad, that also will consist of teammates Dat Vu, Atlan Linford, Angel Campos, Johnny Pham, Landon Le, Justin Nguyen, Darren Pierre, Carl Durham, Jacob Teixeira, and Nahum Perez.

Courtney Meninger and her girls’ team also swings into action today, making the short trek to Medford.

Both teams will take on Revere tomorrow and Malden next Wednesday.
