Amelia Anne ‘Amy’ Makacinas

Amelia Anne “Amy” (Joyokonis)  Makacinas, a lifelong resident of Everett,  died peacefully on September 13 at Massachusetts General Hospital with her two sons Fr. Stanley E. Makacinas, O. Carm. (Niagara Falls, Canada) and John C. Makacinas (Irvine, California) at her side.  She was 89 years old.

She was predeceased by her husband Stanley E. Makacinas who died in 2007, her brothers, John, Tony and Stanley and her sisters Anne Joyokonis and Joan Sarni.

“Amy” was a caring, loving and thoughtful person who was very attentive to others’ needs and  very generous to her family and friends.  She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Parish who enjoyed travel and the companionship of her many friends.  An avid sports fan, she enjoyed the Patriots and Bruins and was philosophical about the ups and downs of the Red Sox.   She enjoyed immensely playing Scrabble with her late sister Joan and her two sons.  Amy retired after 35 years of service from the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Rocco Funeral Home, Everett.  Burial was at Woodlawn Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

Antonio DeSimone

Retired Automobile Salesman

Antonio “Tony” DeSimone of Peabody, formerly of Everett, died on September 16 at the Don Orione Nursing Home in East Boston He was 94 years old..

Born in Chelsea and a longtime resident of Everett before moving to Peabody a few years ago, he was the beloved husband of the late Edie (Coviello); father of Anthony, John, Richard, Francis, Donna and Joseph; brother of Jennie Maccini, Evelyn DeNicola, Louise Demetrio, Theresa Fiore and the late Marciano, Sarah Wojciekowski, Helen Lanni-Cole, Elizabeth Davison in addition to his nephew, Joseph Wojciekowski.

Sincerest thanks are extended to all who helped Antonio along his journey and with appreciation for your kindness, guidance, care, comfort and the many blessings from all who were affiliated with Tony throughout the years.

Cheryl Dulock

Of Methuen, formerly of Everett

Cheryl (Prestera) Dulock of Methuen, formerly of Everett, died peacefully on September 14.

She was the loving wife of the late Steve Dulock of Sunny’s Seafood; mother of Steven Dulock, Jr. and his wife, Maria of Tewksbury and Michael Dulock and his companion, Maureen Gaffney of Methuen; grandmother of Nicholas and Joseph Dulock of Tewksbury; daughter of Adeline (Luciano) Prestera of Everett and the late Frank Prestera; sister of Linda Williamson and her husband, Bill, Rosie Prestera and her companion, Leo Norton, Francine Christensen and her husband, Bob and Robert Prestera; aunt of Jenni and Jessica Williamson and Krista Christensen.

Barbara ‘Barbsi’ Jones

Of North Reading, formerly of East Boston

Barbara “Barbsi” S. Jones of North Reading, formerly of East Boston, died on September 13. She was 87 years old.

The loving mother of Robin Driver and her husband, Dave of North Reading, Linda Jones and Debra Haynes, both of Everett and Helen Bickle of Tewksbury,  she was the wife of the late, Michael and is also survived by six grandchildren and many loving nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Yvonne Kahil of Malden and Everett died at the Annemark Nursing & Rehab Center in Revere on September 14. She was 79 years old.

Born in Egypt, she was the beloved wife of the late George Kahil; loving mother of Adel Kahil and his wife, Cui-Hong Chen of Malden; cherished grandmother of Ryan Kahil, Jessica Kahil, and Jaylyn Kahil.

Ernest Lee Hendrix

Retired Northeastern University Security Guard

Ernest Lee Hendrix of Everett died on September 13 at the Whidden Memorial Hospital in Everett. He was 94 years old.

A US Navy veteran of World War II, he was a retired security guard at Northeastern University, retiring after 24 years of service.

Born in Bern, Arkansas, he was the beloved husband of the late Dorothy A. (Tibbs); dear and devoted father of Sylvia A., Alma, Bernadine and Shannon Hendrix, all of Everett, Ardie Downing of Arizona, Sandee Hendrix of Brighton and Ernest Hendrix, II of Worcester; loving grandfather of Bobby Edmonds and Nadaje Hendrix and great-grandfather of BJ Edmonds.

Anthony M. Sousa of Everett died on September 12.

A US Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was the beloved husband of Irene S. (Dwyer) for more than 60 years; dear and devoted father of Anthony Sousa and his wife, Carole of Everett, Donna Laaser and her husband, Hans of Danvers and Linda Potter and her husband, Harrison of Texas; loving grandpa of Erica DiPietro and her husband, Nick, Jillian and Kayla Sousa, Jordan, Madison and Ashton Potter and great-grandpa of Dylan and Tyler DiPietro. He is also survived by seven siblings and many nieces and nephews.

Edward W. “Eddie” Cordwell, Jr. of Whitman, formerly of Everett, died suddenly on September 9.

He was the beloved son of Jacqueline and Joseph Dewing, Laura Cordwell and the late Edward W. Cordwell, Sr.; father to Edward and brother to Craig, Jesse and Melanie; nephew of Patty and John, Margie, Eddy and Kathy, Cathy and Domenic, Barbara and Jimmy, Janine and Marjorie. He leaves many cousins including John and Lauryn, Eddy, Denyse, Stephanie, Domenic, Vinny, Lauryn, Melissa, Donna, George, Janice, Matt and Ernie and is also survived by Kiara, Kiara’s mother, Senna, and his grandmother, Margaret Cordwell. He was predeceased by his grandparents: Ernest, Patricia and Edward and Uncle Ernest.

Vera E. (Lilley) Gray of Malden died on September 11. She was 101 years old.

The beloved wife of the late Glenn D. Harwood and Virgil Gray, she was the loving mother of the late Dorothy L. Tierney and mother in law of the late Frederick Tierney; beloved sister of the late Bert, Thomas, Gertrude and Arthur Lilley, Jane Best and Dorothy Cook. She is survived by three loving grandchildren David, Steven and Glenn Tierney, nine great grandchildren and by many nieces and nephews. Faith Morse

Faith M. (Bielski) Morse of Everett, formerly of Medford, died suddenly on September 16.

She was the mother of Hope Savage and her husband, Ronald of Everett, Jamie Morse of Medford and Sharilynn Pynn and her husband Keith of Malden; sister of Connie Yunes of Lynn, Robert Bielski of Medford and the late Barbara Ferguson. She is also survived by eight grandchildren.
