The Everett High girls basketball team concluded the final two weeks of their season with a 38-28 win over Haverhill. The Lady Crimson Tide held a five point lead at the half and never were headed as they utilized a strong defense to keep Haverhill from gathering any momentum.
Tori Cyrus led Everett with 14 points. Amanda DeSouza also reached double figures with 12. Taylor Sweeney hit for nine points and Rachel Pearce added two Zoulikha Madkour sank a free throw.
The Lady Crimson Tide’s final contest of the season was a 55-47 loss to Whittier Tech. Everett held a 44-38 advantage with about six minutes to play, but some sudden hot shooting by Whittier, led by a Tech girl who drained four three pointers, resulted in a reversal of fortune for the Lady Crimson Tide.
DeSouza and Cyrus both tingled the twine for 14 points. Sweeney popped in eight and Pearce added five. Sophomore Marisa Miranda came off the bench and made a solid contribution with six points.
The contest was the final game in an EHS uniform for seniors Pearce, Jackie Hanlon, and Yasmin Akeeb.
The Lady Crimson Tide ended with a final record of 3-17 after having reached the state tourney the year before. “It was a disappointing season for us,” noted EHS head coach Tammy Turner. “We had looked forward to building upon last year’s tourney qualifying team and doing even better this year. But it just didn’t happen for us.”
