Although the Everett High girls and boys track teams both fell short in their meets last week against Malden, there were some notable performances for the Crimson Tide scoresheet.
On the girls side, Sashae Walls came through with two first place finishes and then anchored a leg on the winning 4 x 400 relay team to earn 11.25 points on the day. Sashae captured the high jump with a leap of 4-6 and sped to victory in the 300 dash in a time of 49.8.
She then joined with teammates Katie Steeves, Serina Welch-Shull, and Siyeeda Ross to win the 4 x 400 in 5:44.
Sophomore Maeve Kernan easily won the two mile run in 13:32, as she lapped her nearest Malden opponent.
Steeves took second in the 300 in 50.3, just half of a second behind teammate Walls, and Ross took a second in the high jump in 4-2. Co-captain Daryl Colson scored points in two events, grabbing a third in the hurdles in 9.4 and a second in the shot put with a toss of 29-1.
Junior Jessica Mangan added three points for Everett with a second place effort in the mile in 6:41.8.
On the boys side, individual winners were co-captain Peter DuPerier with a victory in the 300 dash in 39.2 and David Lima in the 600 in 1:37.8.
The 4 x 400 relay of co-captain Domenic Mucci, Soufiane Fdal, Andres Tejada, and Duperier also earned five first place points with a time of 4:39.3.
Other scorers for Everett were Stanley LaForest with a third in the 50 yard hurdles in 8.0 and a second in the high jump with a leap of 5-0. Brian Panarese grabbed a third in the 50 yard dash in 5.9 and co-captain Ricky Perez also took a third in the two mile in 11:43.9.
Dexter Dowe tossed the shotput 44-.5 and qualified for the Division 1 State Meet, which is quite a feat in the first meet of the season.
EHS head coach Shelanda Irish and her teams will compete in the Somerville Invitational today (Wednesday) and then will trek over to Somerville once again on Tuesday for the Somerville Classic during the vacation week
