Boys soccer team ties Somerville, 2-2

Walles Nogueria scored a goal with about 15 minutes to play to give the Everett High boys soccer team a 2-2 tie with GBL rival Somerville last week.

Somerville had taken a 2-1 advantage into the locker room, but the Crimson Tide defense held firm throughout the second half to allow the forward lines an opportunity to notch the equalizer. Crimson Tide Captain David Lima had scored the first Everett goal in the opening half.

“Our defense played exceptionally well, especially in the second half,” said EHS had coach Fred Jannino, who noted in particular the fine play of sweeper Eric Chajon and stopper Edwin Martinez. The coach also cited the overall effort of Ivan Velev.

The boys traveled to St. John’s Prep Monday and will trek to Medford today (Wednesday) and to Malden Friday. They will play host to Xaverian on Monday afternoon and then entertain Cambridge under the lights at the Stadium next Wednesday.
