Rep. Joe McGonagle was pleased to join Gold Star Family members and supporters at the Military Friends Foundation 5K Run for the Fallen in Dedham earlier in September. Sponsored by the Military Friends Foundation, the event honors fallen heroes and their families by remembering their legacies and raising funds to aide the loved ones left behind. All proceeds go to Massachusetts military families. This year, the event also honored the lives and legacies of the first responder who courageously sacrificed themselves to help victims of the September 11th attacks. In honor of the 25th anniversary of the tragedy, the event marked their incredible heroism.
“The Military Friends Foundation always does an incredible job and today was no exception,” said McGonagle. “Sarah Sweeney and her team put on an incredible event with a great turnout. It was so nice to see so many familiar faces, especially Robin Abbott, who was there to honor her son Jason Welch, an Everett High alumnus. The Gold Star Families are a special community and I am thrilled I was able to participate with them.”
