Everett rolls past Malden, 35-6, in Greater Boston League opener

Executing the game plan to perfection, the Everett High School football team rolled to a 35-6 victory over Malden in its Greater Boston League opener Friday night at Macdonald Stadium.

Five different players – Tyler Freni, Jeremiah Joseph, Jamauri Dulin, Stevenstone Thomas, and Michael Walsh scored touchdowns in in the game. Walsh, the Tide’s impressive freshman quarterback, threw touchdown passes to Joseph and Dulin measuring 38 and 36 yards respectively. Walsh was 10-of-16 for 167 yards, including three completions to Jerol Zamor for 64 yards.

Freni had 13 carries for 93 yards in another strong performance. Philip Pimenta rushed for 52 yards on four carries.

“Because we were running the ball with some success, we were able to connect on some play-action passes,” said DiLoreto. “Michael had another good game at quarterback, making some fantastic throws.”

Everett’s improving offense racked up more than 400 yards.

Meanwhile, the Crimson Tide defense pitched a shutout against a potent Malden offense (2-2) who had averaged 20 points a game. Malden’s lone score came on a kickoff return for a touchdown.

Linebackers Armani Negron and Tommy Ramos set the tone in the middle of the Everett defense. Jakari Jukes was a force on defense in the second half. Cornerback Godson Delisme made three unassisted tackles.

Another bright spot for Everett was placekicker Luca DaSilva, who was a perfect 5-of-5 on PATs.

“We’re very proud of the effort that our players are putting forth,” said DiLoreto. “The hard work in practice is paying off in games. We have a big Homecoming game against Revere Friday night. Revere is a great GBL rival, and I have so much respect for Coach Lou Cicatelli and the job he does in Revere. We know it’s going to be a real, hard-fought game. We’re going to have to play our very best.”
