Champions of Kindness: Everett High basketball players aid motorist on Revere Beach Parkway

The first day of practice is two months away but members of the Everett High School boys basketball team are already champions.

Players from the team came to aid of a motorist whose vehicle stalled on Revere Beach Parkway in the middle of heavy traffic.

During a Peter Eliopoulos report that aired Monday night on WCVB-TV, Robin Gay explained her dire situation and the ensuing act of helpfulness by the Everett players.

“When I pulled out of the parking lot [after volunteering at Phunk Phenomenon Dance Complex Friday evening], my car just died,” said Gay. “Cars were literally flying, so I kind of went into a panic state, and my biggest fear was that someone was going to hit me.”

But the Crimson Tide contingent sprung into action, pushing the car away from the oncoming traffic and into a parking space at an adjacent lot.

“We are taught here at this high school that it doesn’t matter if we don’t know the person – if you see somebody in trouble, go help them,” basketball player Emanuel Lerbot said to the Channel 5 reporter in an interview.

Gay offered the group a financial reward, but the players declined. “To them, it was just like, ‘we’re really glad that you’re safe.”

“The impact they had was just unbelievable,” added Gay. “You don’t realize what people are going through, but the littlest things make a difference. And hopefully the kindness keeps spreading.”

Basketball player Gerardo Cubias said, “You feel great after doing something good. It was amazing to help her.”

“Regardless of who you are, just be you and just show kindness and to whoever needs help, just help and that’s it,’ said senior captain Jayden Alsaindor

Summing up the feelings of everyone who watched the report, news anchor Ed Harding praised the Everett group, stating, “Way to go, guys.”

Yes, it was heartwarming to see such these wonderful Everett student-athletes unhesitatingly helping a person in need of immediate assistance.
