Margaret ‘Peg’ Connolly

“The First Lady of Everett”

Margaret M. “Peg” (Goodfellow) Connolly, “The First Lady of Everett,” passed away surrounded by her loving family on July 30. She was 90 years old.

Peg was loved and respected throughout the Everett community. She was the Past Treasurer of St. Therese Ladies Sodality, Past President of the Everett Emblem Club #51, a member of GBARC, and numerous other civic organizations.

The beloved wife of the late State Rep. and former Mayor Edward G. Connolly, she was the loving mother of Edward Connolly, Jr. and his wife, Eleonora, Heather Connolly, Valerie Connolly, Christopher Connolly and his girlfriend, Maureen Hughes, and Dr. Sean Connolly and his wife, Ann Marie; cherished grandmother of Sean Jr., Saoirse, and Hannah Connolly; loving sister of Therese D’Agostino and the late George, Frances, and Jack Goodfellow. She is also survived by many adoring nieces and nephews.

Funeral arrangements were by the JF Ward Funeral Home, Everett. Interment was in Glenwood Cemetery, Everett. In Peg’s memory, donations may be made to the Edward G. Connolly Center, 90 Chelsea St., Everett, MA 02149

John Robert Doyle

Retired Union Carpenter and lifelong Everett resident

John Robert Doyle passed away on Sunday morning, August 7 at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford.  He was 88 years old.

John was a lifelong resident of Everett.  He was born and raised in the city,  the son of the late John and Mabel (Upton) Doyle.  John attended Everett Public Schools but was eager to get out so he could enlist in the armed forces.  He entered the US Navy on February 16, 1946 and was honorably discharged on November 19, 1947.   In 1953, John married his beloved Joan B. (Janes), also of Everett.  Together they celebrated 61 years of marriage before Joan’s passing in 2014.

By trade, John was a carpenter.  He dedicated almost 50 years of service with the Carpenters Union Local 218, working all over the Greater Boston area.  He retired in 1993 and enjoyed traveling with his beloved wife for the next 15 years.  John and Joan enjoyed 25 years as two snow birds spending the harsh Boston winters at their second home in Spinaca Point of Punta Gorda, Florida.  John will be greatly missed by all who loved him.

He was the devoted father of Barry S. Doyle and his wife, Eva of Middleton, Kimberly A. Doyle of Everett and the late John R. Doyle; dear brother of the late Edward Doyle, Paul Doyle and Muriel Doyle; beloved grandfather of Cieara M. McManus and her husband, Sean of Everett.  John is also lovingly survived by several nieces and nephews and his two Yorkies, Bella and Coco.

A Family Reflection will be conducted at the Carafa Family Funeral Home, 389 Washington Avenue, Chelsea on Friday, August 12 at 7 p.m.  Visiting hours will precede the service from 4 to 7 p.m.  Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend.  Interment will be held privately at a later date.
