Crimson Tide B-Team Wins Eastern Mass Championship

The Everett B-Team won the Eastern Mass. Champs league with a 14-8 win over the Patriots of Brookline-Jamaica Plain recently.

Prior to playing in the playoffs, Everett was 4-4. The first round of the playoffs last weekend had the Tide up against the Bulldogs of East Lynn. The Tide came out in strong force and won that game 38-8 to move onto the next round. The next match pins the Tide up against the undefeated Eagles of Dorchester. Earlier in the season, the Tide lost to the Eagles 21-6. This past Thursday night, Nov. 12, Everett came out with fire in its eyes, wanting to beat Dorchester to prove that they could play with the best. Everett came out strong. The Tide took the victory with a score of 36-6 to move them onto the Eastern Mass Championship game.

For the championship game, the Tide was faced against another undefeated team in the Patriots of Brookline-JP. Brookline-JP beat Everett earlier in the season 13-12 with Everett giving them a hard fought game. In the championship game both teams came out to a rocky start with both needing to punt on their first possessions. Everett capitalized on the Patriots’ punt with Mac Shillingford running the punt return back for a touchdown. David Cifuentes kicked the point after to put the Tide up 8-0. In the second quarter, Brookline-JP capitalized on an Everett turnover and ran in an interception followed by the PAT to tie the game 8-8.

The boys of Everett would score once in the second half and that would be all they needed. Everett took the lead in the third quarter on a touchdown by quarterback Joshua Baldwin. Everett was on its way to scoring another touchdown but fumbled the ball. Brookline-JP would recover the fumble and take their final drive down the field. With under a minute left and the Patriots still having to go deep down the field, they look to passing. Brookline-JP’s deep pass wound up in the hands of Everett’s Brandon Gibbs, which sealed the win for the Crimson Tide. The Crimson Tide is set to face the Boston Raiders for the semifinals in the New England Region.

The game will be played this Saturday, November 21, at 1 p.m. at the Everett Veterans Memorial Stadium.
