Everett rolls past Medford, 41-0, in GBL opener

The Everett High football team opened its Greater Boston League schedule with a dominating 41-0 victory over Medford Friday night at Hormel Stadium.

Senior running back Nick Orekoya scored two touchdowns as Everett built a quick 20-0 advantage in the first period. Orekoya caught a 22-yard pass from senior quarterback Alex Diaz for one score and added a 59-yard run for his second TD.

Boston College-bound senior Lukas Denis continued his All-Scholastic caliber campaign with a 42-yard punt return for a touchdown.

Senior Dominique Brown had a 1-yard touchdown run while junior Jonathan Pharel concluded the scoring with a 79-yard burst in the fourth quarter.

Coach John DiBiaso was pleased with his team’s performance, singling out Alex Diaz on offense and defensive back Grandhi Deris on defense for stellar contributions.

Diaz, starting at quarterback in place of sophomore Jordan McAfee who is out after sustaining a concussion in the St. John’s Prep game, led the Crimson Tide on two early scoring drives, completing passes and running the offense efficiently.

Deris, a key member of Everett’s superb defensive backfield, had two interceptions.

Everett improved to 4-1 overall (1-0, GBL). The Tide are ranked No. 2 in the Boston Globe and Boston Herald polls behind No. 1 Xaverian.

Everett hosts Somerville (1-4) Friday night.
