City to Hold Independence Day Celebration July 12

Mayor Carlo DeMaria and the City of Everett just don’t want the Fourth of July celebrations to end!  That is why this weekend, Saturday, July 12th from Noon to 5:00PM, the City will hold its Independence Day event at Jacob Scharf Playground and Field (also known as Florence Street Park).

The festivities will include free carnival rides including inflatable obstacle courses, a mechanical bull, bungee jumper and runner, Velcro wall, kiddie cars and train, and carnival games such as shooting stars, circus seals, ring toss and human bowling!  All of the rides and games will be located in the playing field section of the park.

At 12:30pm the traditional foot races will be held by the Everett Recreation Department in the playing field along Luke Road.  Races will be grouped by school grade: Pre-K and Kindergarten, first and second, third and fourth, fifth and sixth, and seventh and eighth.  And the doll carriage and bicycle decorating contest will be judged at 12:30pm as well on the main stage in the Playground.  So don’t miss these fun contents!

Music, food, and novelty acts will all be located inside the playground area of the park.  Free face Painting and balloon twisting will be available for kids, as well as play time with the Boston Hula Hoop Company and the Uncle Sam Stilt Walker!  And don’t forget to get in line to meet your favorite Princesses and Characters and have your photo taken!  A lot of familiar faces will be visiting Everett that the kids will not want to miss!

In addition to the sounds of DJ Beatz, entertainment will also include a stand-out performance by the high energy band “Generations” at 2:00pm.

So be sure to bring the whole family and enjoy all the fun.  In case of inclement weather, the event will be moved to Sunday, July 13th.  On Friday the 12th, be sure to check the City’s Facebook page and listed for the automated phone call for a decision.
