Walls takes Third in High Jump at D-1 Meet; Dowe Sets EHS Mark

Sashae Walls brought home third place in the high jump in Saturday’s Eastern Mass. Division 1 track and field meet held at Andover High. Sashae’s leap of five feet, two inches was a personal record (PR) and tied the Everett High outdoor record set by Cara Woodward. Sashae’s fine effort propelled her into the All-State Meet that will be held this Saturday at Bridgewater State College.

“Sashae did a great job,” said EHS head coach Shelanda Irish. The multi-talented Walls also competed in the 400 meter dash, in which she turned in a time of 1:03.26, and ran a leg of the Lady Crimson Tide’s 4 x 100 relay squad.

Another Crimson Tide trackster who performed well at  the D-1 Meet was Dexter Dowe, who set an EHS record (and PR) in the shotput with a toss of 48′, 10.25″.   Dexter’s best-ever effort landed him in eighth place overall in D-1 and also qualified him for the All-State Meet.

“Dexter saved his best for this big meet,” said Irish. “Qualifying for the all-state meet is quite an achievement and there is no one who deserves it more than Dexter because no one works harder than he does.”

Other members of the Crimson Tide track teams who competed in the D-1 Meet were Peter Duperier, who made it to the finals of the 200 meter dash with a time 23.37, which put him in the top eight. Peter finished in that spot in the final. He also had qualified for the D-1 Meet in the 400 dash, but chose to race in the 200.

Daryl Colson, the EHS girls record holder in the discus, competed in that event and came through with a toss of 76-4.

Both the boys and girls 4 x 100 teams also ran in the D-1 Meet and both turned in their best times of the season. The boys’ quartet of Brian Panarese, Jonathan Mendez, Dom Mucci, and Andres Tejada sped around the track in a time of 46.14. The girls’ foursome of Katie Steeves, Colson, Walls, and Serina Welsh Shull completed their lap in 54.34.
