The Everett Board of Aldermen elected longtime member Mike Marchese as its president.
It is a good choice.
Mike Marchese is perhaps the best known political name in Everett and for many, many years.
One thing is for sure, Marchese will call it as he sees it when it comes to the city’s business.
He is absolutely unafraid to articulate exactly what he is thinking and he has a firm set of beliefs about how the city should be run.
He is at a point in his life where he is doing what he wants to do, so he will feel very little pressure being the president.
It is others who will come before him sometimes who will be made to feel pressure.
Marchese remains a fiscal conservative.
He will be inclined to make the mayor work a bit harder as his inclination is to always question just a bit whatever is being sought by whomever was the mayor at the time.
It will be a difficult term to be president as less money will be coming to the city from the state because of the Commonwealth’s huge budget deficit.
Whatever comes his way, Marchese and his colleagues will handle it.
We congratulate Marchese on being made president.
We wish him the best.
