Hopes are high for the Everett High field hockey team as they opened their 2009 season at home yesterday (Tuesday) against Beverly.
“We have three full teams and a great group of girls,” said EHS head coach Janet Colameta. “Everyone has been working very hard, and we’re eager to get the season started.”
Leading the way for Colameta’s 2009 crew will be captains Sam Sarni and Lisa Aylward, both of whom have years of varsity experience. Colameta also is welcoming back a number of other key performers, including leading scorer Alex Arvanaitis, goalie Martine Mathurin, and Jenny and Amy Phan.
Other members of the varsity squad include Sashae Walls, Bette Vo, Jenny Thang, Yasmin Akeeb, Carolana Campos, Kayla Lombardo, Casey Brennan, Nancy Nguyen, Elaina Barker, sophomore Brianna Uga, and freshmen Ellina Oliveria and Samantha Fudge.
“We have a nice mix of older and younger players,” said Colameta. “We had a great preseason. The team has been working very well together and calling to each other. They’ve done everything I could have asked of them.”
After yesterday’s (Tuesday’s) game with Beverly, Colameta and her Crimson Tide squad have a busy week ahead, traveling to Waltham on Friday, to Danvers on Monday, and then hosting Ursuline Academy on Wednesday.
