The City of Everett, in collaboration with Desi Fest Boston, welcomed residents and visitors to Rivergreen Park on Saturday, August 22, for a day of music, dance, food and community as part of the City’s second annual Diwali celebration.
Attendees enjoyed a variety of food, local vendors, live music, and cultural performances throughout the afternoon. The event featured performances by singer and songwriter Param, singer Ritu Sagar and singer and performer Rav Dosanjh, as well as a special performance by the Boston Bhangra Competition Team.
Acclaimed Punjabi singer Harjeet Harman also took the stage as the event’s featured artist.
“When we come together and share our light with one another, that light only grows brighter,” said Mayor Robert J. Van Campen. “That is what makes celebrations like Diwali so meaningful. We join together to celebrate our traditions, share our cultures, and learn from one another, while building a stronger community together.”
Diwali, known as the Festival of Lights, is an important holiday celebrated by millions of people around the world. The holiday represents the triumph of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance and good over evil. Celebrations often include lights, music, traditional foods, gatherings with family and friends, and other cultural traditions.
The City of Everett thanks Desi Fest Boston, event organizers, performers, vendors, volunteers and everyone who attended for helping bring the community together and celebrate the rich cultural traditions represented in Everett.
