The Pioneer Charter School of Science Upper School (PCSS I) and Pioneer Charter School of Science Upper School II (PCSS II) was recently named to the Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) School Honor Roll, earning Platinum distinction for the 2022-2023 school year.
The AP® School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results for students while broadening access. Schools can earn this recognition annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness.
Of all seniors at PCSS I, 80 percent took at least one AP exam, with 62 percent scoring a three or higher on at least one exam. Five or more AP exams were taken by 16 percent of students throughout their high school careers, with at least one taken during ninth or tenth grade.
There are 15 AP courses offered at PCSS I, with as many sections taught. Ten teachers cover the AP courses throughout the year. Research shows that students who take AP courses and subsequent exams are more likely to attend college and graduate on time.
Of all seniors at PCSS II, 85 percent took at least one AP exam, with 73 percent scoring a three or higher on at least one exam. Five or more AP exams were taken by 31 percent of students, with at least one taken during ninth or tenth grade.
There are 16 AP courses offered at PCSS II, with as many sections taught. Eleven teachers cover the AP courses throughout the year. Research shows that students who take AP courses and subsequent exams are more likely to attend college and graduate on time.
