EHS Girls Basketball Seeking Elusive 10th

After coming up short in its lone contest last week at Haverhill, the Everett High girls basketball team was seeking to punch their ticket for a Journey to the Tourney when the Lady Crimson Tide took on Greater Boston League rival Revere last night (Tuesday).

Everett opened its season with a 7-0 record, but has split its past four contests. The Lady Crimson Tide now stand at 9-2 and need one more victory to qualify for the MIAA post-season state tournament to assure themselves of a .500 record, which is the minimum mark needed to play in the post-season.

After the contest wth Greater Boston League rival Revere, coach Tammy Turner and her crew will take on another GBL foe, Medford, tomorrow (Thursday) evening.

They then will entertain GBL opponent Malden next Tuesday at 7 p.m. Turner’s squad stands at 4-0 in the GBL and defeated all three of those GBL rivals this week in their initial meetings earlier this season.

Victories in all three of those encounters will ensure at least a GBL co-championship for Everett.

EHS Track Members Compete at Coaches Meet

A contingent of members of the Everett High girls and boys indoor track & field teams competed in this past week’s Massachusetts State Coaches Assoc. Meet that was held at the Reggie Lewis Center in Roxbury.

The meet was by invitation only, with entry for competitors limited to those achieving a qualifying time or distance.

On the girls side, senior captain Lucia Seide was the top finisher, placing 19th among 101 fellow sprinters in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.76 seconds.

Seide was joined by two Lady Crimson Tide teammates at the meet.

Senior captain Victoria Chapparo competed in the 300-dash, finishing 26th with a personal record (PR) clocking of 43.82.

Kira Gray’s throw of 29’-7.25” landed Kira in 19th position in the shot-put.

For the boys, Everett was represented by Sami LaMothe in the 55-meter dash, Brandon Previlon and Mac Shillingford in the 300-dash, and the 4 x 200-relay team of Previlon, Brandon Ho, and senior captains Eduardo Chaparro and Max Shillingford.

Coach Jehu Cimea and his boys and girls squads will take on Somerville this evening (Wednesday) in a meet that will be highlighted by Senior Night festivities.

Everett then will compete in the Greater Boston League Meet this weekend.

Two More Wins for EHS hockey; Hosts Revere Saturday

The Everett High hockey team improved its record to a sterling 9-4 on the season thanks to a pair of victories this past week. Coach Alex Naumann’s squad dispatched O’Bryant High of Boston last Wednesday, 12-5, and then cruised past Nashoba/Greater Lowell, 10-2, this past Saturday.

The Crimson Tide will host Greater Boston League rival Revere this Saturday. The opening face-off at Allied Veterans Rink is set for 6:00. Everett then will make the short ride to LoConte Rink in Medford to meet the Mustangs next Wednesday at 7 p.m.
