Peter Duperier and Sashae Walls captured first place in their individual events at Saturday’s Greater New Bedford Invitational Track and Field Meet which featured competitors from across Eastern Mass.
Peter won the 400 meter dash in a time of 51.34 seconds which was a personal record (PR). He already has qualified for the State Divisional Meet later this spring in the 400.
On the girls’ side, Sashae grabbed first place in the high jump with a leap of 5-1, a performance that was a meet record and just missed qualifying her for the State Meet. She also came back to earn third place in the 400 dash in a time of 1:04.58.
Other notable performances for Coach Shelanda Irish’s contingent who made the trek south came from David Lima with a third place finish in the 800 in a time of 2:04.63 that was just short of the qualifying time for the State Meet; Dom Mucci with a fifth in the 200 meter dash in 24.36; Dexter Dowe with a fourth in the discus with a toss of 109-3; and Maeve Kernan with a sixth in the mile in 5:54.13.
In addition, Jackie Steeves set a new school record in the javelin with a throw of 77-8 and Daryl Colson set a new school record in the discus with a toss of 85-2.50, which was good for sixth place.
The Everett girls 4 x 100 relay quartet of Katie Steeves, Daryl Colson, Walls, and Serina Welsh-Shull also turned in a strong performance with a time of 54.24 that earned them a second place medal.
