With an expected “Red Out” at Everett Veterans Memorial Stadium, the Everett High football team will open its 2024 season against Mansfield High Friday at 7 p.m.
Everett fans are being encouraged to wear red jerseys in a show of unity and support for head coach Justin Flores’ contingent on opening night.
Flores said his team has had a strong preseason and is ready to play Mansfield, a perennial state title contender.
“They’re a very good team,” said Flores. “They’re a disciplined team. They’re going to be tough up front. They have good size from their line to their skill positions. They’re going to look to run downhill on us and try to deceive us a little bit in the passing game.
Carlos Rodriguez returns as the starting quarterback for Everett.
“He’s ready to go,” said Flores. “I’m so excited to see him with more of a grasp of the offense mentally. He also put in a lot of work this offseason to physically tune up his body.”
Flores said that the election for team captains was set to be held Tuesday.
