EHS Girls Basketball Tops English, 43–32
The Everett High girls basketball team prevailed in what head coach Riley Dunn termed “an absolute battle” with a 43-32 triumph over Greater Boston League (GBL) rival Lynn English last Thursday at the EHS gym.
Malaica Guillaume turned in a superlative, all-around performance, achieving a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds while also making five steals.
Emilia Maria Babcock also came through with a strong two-way effort, leading the Lady Crimson Tide offense, dishing out six assists, and terrorizing the English offense with five steals,
Sonia Costanza Flores applied consistent defensive pressure, adding two assists and steals to the winning performance.
“We had an excellent defensive effort and showed poise in times of pressure,” said Dunn. “”It was a great win!”
Earlier in the week, the Lady Tide came up short in a 36-26 loss to GBL foe Lynn Classical.
“This was a tough loss,” noted Dunn. “It was an extremely tough defensive battle on both sides. There was a lot of hustle and effort from both teams.
Malaica Guillaume led the Lady Crimson Tide with nine points and 10 boards and snared three steals. Emilia Maria Babock pulled down six caroms and made five steals.
Dunn and her crew, who stand at 2-2 on the season, will host non-league opponent Acton-Boxboro this Friday at 2:30. They will entertain GBL foe Revere next Thursday at 7:00.
Undefeated EHS Boys Hoop Plays in Tourney
First-year coach Gerry Boyce’s 4-0 Everett High boys basketball team will take on non-league rival Millbury High School today (Wednesday) at 3:00 in a holiday tournament being hosted by Malden Catholic.
The Crimson Tide, who are coming off a scintillating 65-61 triumph last Thursday at Lynn English in a battle of Greater Boston League (GBL) titans, will travel to non-league opponent Cambridge Rindge and Latin next Wednesday.
Record is 2-2. Next game home vs. Acton Boxboro Friday 12/29 2:30 pm.
