EHS Fall Sports Swing Into Gear Next Week
With the pandemic restrictions of 2020 hopefully in the rear-view mirror and a return to near-normalcy on the horizon, the Everett High fall athletic season is set to get underway next week.
The boys and girls soccer teams will kick off their 2021 campaigns against Greater Boston League rival Revere on Tuesday, September 7.
Coach Pedro Blas and his boys will host the Patriots at 7 Acre Park at 4:00, while the girls, under the direction of first-year head coach Sheryl Steeves, will make the short trek to Revere.
“We’re still in the process of selecting the varsity team,” said Steeves, a former star player for Everett High who served as the assistant coach under long-time head coach DeAnn Gallagher (who stepped down upon having a child recently).
The 2021 edition of the Lady Crimson Tide will be led by a pair of captains, Gitalia (Gigi) Boyce and Mariana Madrigal Orrego.
“The pre-season has been going well,” added Steeves. “We played in a jamboree on Sunday. We beat Chelsea in the first game 2-0 and we lost the second game to Austin Prep 3-0.”
Steeves and her crew were scheduled to engage in another scrimmage today (Wednesday) against Dracut.
After their season-opening contests with Revere on Tuesday, both the boys (away) and girls (at EHS) will take on Medford next Thursday.
Coach Brendan Hahesy and the EHS cross country team also will get going on Tuesday with a meet against Lynn English on the tricky course at Lynn Woods.
Melissa O’Donnell and the EHS field hockey squad will open their season next Wednesday when they host Malden at 7 Acre Park.
The EHS volleyball team under coach Jennifer Spayne opens its season next Thursday (September 9) at GBL foe Medford.
Coach Steve Gallagher and the EHS golf team are scheduled to host Revere on the Mt. Hood course on Monday, September 7 and will play at Medford on Wednesday, Sept. 9.
