George Edwards, Jr.

Retired Teacher; Of Florida,

formerly of Everett

George M. Edwards, Jr. of Fleming Island, Florida, formerly of Everett, entered into rest on May 12 at home in Florida surrounded by his loving family. He was 92 years old.

Born in Malden, George lived in Everett for many, many years before moving to Fleming Island, Florida. A graduate of Melrose High School, George earned his undergraduate degree from Boston College; his master’s degree from Boston State College; and did graduate studies at Boston State College and Salem State University. He retired in 1989 from teaching.

A US Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the USS Alabama, he was a life member of the Arthur DeFronzo Post VFW, Saugus and former treasurer of ERMA.

He was the beloved husband of Antonetta N. (Cardillo) for more than 67 years; dear and devoted father of Georganna E. Harvey of Fleming Island, FL and Richard S. Edwards of Everett; brother of the late Richard S. and Theodore Edwards; loving grandfather of Anne Marie Harvey, Danielle Harvey Irwin, Jennifer Edwards, Lorri Edwards, Richard S. Edwards, Jr. and Colleen Harvey Hanrahan and great-grandfather of two loving great-grandchildren. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Edward’s visiting hours in the Cafasso & Sons Funeral Home, 65 Clark St. (Corner of Main St.) Everett on Thursday, May 15 from 4-8 p.m. His funeral will be from the funeral home on Friday at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in the Immaculate Conception Church, 487 Broadway, Everett, at 10 a.m. Interment with military honors will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Edward’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105, would be sincerely appreciated.

Arthur Andrew Young Sr.

Retired Everett Fire Captain

Arthur Andrew Young, Sr. of Everett passed away peacefully on May 6 with his family by his side. He was 97 years old.

Arthur was born on Sept 22, 1916 in Everett where he spent his early years until moving to Brooklin, Me. He returned to Everett in 1931 to attend and graduate from Everett High School in 1934. He graduated from Burdett College at the age of 22 and worked for Porter Cable until he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard in 1943. During World War II he served on fire boats in Boston and Mobile, Alabama.

While in the Coast Guard, he married his high school sweetheart Alice and started the family he loved so much. Arthur joined the Everett Fire Department after the World War II and retired in 1979 with the rank of Captain. He served at various times as President and Treasurer of the Everett Veteran Fireman Association of which he remained an active member until his passing. He enjoyed spending many days at his former home in Brooklin, Maine with his children, telling stories of his youth before and during the early years of the depression.

Arthur was the husband of the late Alice (Mitchell) and is survived by his children: Alicia Turner of Malden, Rita Martell and her husband, Michael of Malden, Arthur Young of Everett and Harold Young and his wife, Zwetlana. of Saugus He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Jill (Tiberi) Martin and her husband, Thomas, Jocelyn (Tiberi) Kivort and her husband, Robert, Eric Tiberi, Dawn (Martell) Munro and her husband, Andrew, Maureen Martell and her husband, Fadi Saffouri and Michael Martell and his wife, Ida, Ashley Young, Gabrielle Young and Christopher Young. He also leaves his much loved five great grandchildren: Thomas Jr. and Amanda Martin, Olivia and Mirielle Kivort and Tori Munro. Arthur was the son of Christine and Harold Young and the brother of the late Stanley and Shirley Young. He was the father-in-law of the late Edward Turner.

His funeral was held at the JF Ward Funeral Home, Everett, on Friday, May 9. Services concluded with interment with military honors in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett. William Marchant

Former President of Everett Little League

William G. Marchant, a lifelong Everett resident, passed away on May 12. He was 81 years old.

Mr. Marchant was a longtime member of the Pipefitter’s Union Local #537 and the former president of Everett Little League.

He was the beloved husband of the late Florence (Ozioli) Marchant; loving father of William Marchant and his wife, Brenda and Michael Marchant and his wife, Kelly, all of Everett; loving brother of James Marchant and his wife, Carmella of Everett and the late Richard Marchant; cherished grandfather of Jonathan, William “DJ”, Jenna, Mari, Kristen and Michaela.

Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a visitation at the JF Ward Funeral Home, 772 Broadway, Everett on Thursday, May 15 from 9 to 11 a.m. followed by a service in the funeral home at 11a.m. Services will conclude with interment in Glenwood Cemetery, Everett.
