What do you do in the City? “I am the School Resource Officer. I have been in this position since January. Prior to this, I was a Patrol Officer. Since the children have not been in school, I have been spending my time with the homeless to get them the right resources and help. I have worked to get some people into rehab and others in housing. I also still respond to patrol calls. Now that the schools have opened, I am back there as well.”
What is your favorite part about working for the City? “I grew up here and went to school here. I have a lot of pride in my community and I love helping the people of Everett.”
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned from your role? “I’ve learned a lot during my time here, but working with the homeless really puts things in perspective. Each person has their own burdens to bear, and one of the biggest lessons I’ve learned: treat people with dignity and respect. You also need empathy, compassion, and humility in this job because having the power to take someone’s freedom away shouldn’t be taken lightly.”
What do you like to do when you are not working? “I am a huge animal lover! I have a 10-year-old dog, Emmett, and I take him for walks all the time. I also go to church, that’s very important to me.”
