David A. Whelton, Sr. of Everett died unepectedly after being taken to the Massachusetts General Hospital on Friday, August 21 after becoming ill at his workplace, McGinn Bus Co.
Born in Melrose, he was raised and educated in Saugus and was a graduate of Saugus High School, Class of 1971. He entered the US Army at Ft. Stewart, Georgia in October of 1974 and served until October of 1979. After discharge from the army he moved to Everett, where he remained. He was a passionate member of the Viet-Nam effort. Nine years ago he began working for the McGinn Bus Lines of Lynn as a Teamster with Local #42 of Lynn.
He was the beloved husband of 39 years to Diane E. (Baxter) and the adored father of Gwen E. Whelton, both of Everett, and the late David A. Whelton, Jr. He was the cherished grandfather of Kristen E. Whelton, Jake D. and Savanah D. Gomez, all of Everett; the dear son of Ruth F. (Mahoney) Whelton of Saugus and the late John F. Whelton; the devoted brother of John F. Whelton of Wilmington, Carolyn Gammon of Saugus, Mark Whelton of Saugus, Kathleen Coccivillo of Wakefield, Adam Whelton and his wife, Rosalie of Peabody and the late Cynthia L. Wilson. He is also lovingly survived by Helen Gray and Steven Albano and by many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service today, Wednesday, August 26 at 11 a.m. in Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107) Revere followed by interment at Puritan Lawn Cemetery, Peabody.
