The Everett High baseball team is scheduled to open its 2014 season Monday afternoon when the Crimson Tide host Marblehead at Glendale Park.
Despite the bad weather, which has kept the Everett diamondmen inside, EHS head coach Joe Lento reports that things have been going as well as could be expected for his squad.
“Obviously we’d like to be outside, but we’re doing everything we can to get ready for the season,” said Lento. “We’ve been working on all of the mental things that are part of the game, such as pick-off plays, defensing bunts, and so forth. The pitchers have been working on getting their legs and arms into shape. We’re still waiting to see who’s going to fit in and where for us, and until we get a chance to play some ball outside, we won’t be able to make those decisions, especially as to our younger players.”
Lento and his crew were scheduled to scrimmage Newton South yesterday (Tuesday) and scrimmage at Lynnfield Saturday prior to Monday’s opener. The Tide’s next contest is Friday, April 11, when they host Saugus.
Lady Crimson Tide softball team scheduled to open today
Although the schedule says that the Everett High softball team is set to open its 2014 season today (Wednesday) at Methuen, Mother Nature has had other ideas. Whether the conditions of the fields anywhere in Eastern Mass. will be playable is a big question mark and will be a day-of-game determination.
The next contest for Coach Stacy Poste and her squad is set for Friday, when the Lady Crimson Tide will host Westford. Everett travels to Swampscott Monday and will host Latin Academy next Wednesday.
