We believe it is disappointing that the Board of Alderman failed to endorse the Common Council’s motion giving the city’s commercial and residential property owners a badly needed break.
By failing to approve the transfer of $4 million of city cash as ordered by the Common Council, reductions of $2000 and $300 respectively for commercial and residential taxpayers is kaput.
It is a shame that the Board of Aldermen failed to understand the gravity of the situation facing property owners. Values have declined. Taxes have risen.
Some relief was warranted but won’t be forthcoming.
