Everett High sophomore Maeve Kernan pulled off an unusual double victory by capturing both the mile and two mile events in last week’s meet with Malden.
Maeve ran a 6:22.1 in the mile and posted a time of 14:12.1 to capture the two mile event. “Maeve’s time was a bit off her usual performance in the two mile,” said EHS head coach Shelanda Irish. “But considering she also ran the mile, she did very well.”
Sashae Walls and Katie Steeves also were individual winners for the Lady Crimson. Sashae sped to victory in the 200 meter dash in 30.1 seconds and Katie captured the long jump with a leap of 12 feet, four inches.
The Everett 4 x 400 relay quartet of Franklyne Paul, Ducylia Johnson, Angele Louis-Jean, and Steeves brought home five points with their first place effort in a time of 5:37.4.
Walls also finished second in the 400 meter hurdles in 79.2, as did Steeves in the 400 in 1:12.2. Other second place finishers for the girls were Naeva Richemond in the 100 dash in 14.3 and Guerdie Valmont in the 20 dash in 30.4.
Lady Crimson Tide who added a point to the Everett score sheet with third place efforts were Melissa Michel in the two mile in 16:04.2; Kassandra Sampson with a discus throw of 68-8; Jackie Steeves in the mile in 6:47.7; and Daryl Colson in the 100 high hurdles in 21.1 and in the javelin with a toss of 60-4.
Michel’s performance was particularly impressive as she came from behind with two laps to go to pull out the third place finish. As for Colson, this marked the first time she competed in the high hurdles.
The girls track team is set to travel to St. Mary’s of Lynn next Wednesday.
