Everett Career Fair connects students and residents with careers in the trades

The City of Everett partnered with Everett Public Schools, Suffolk Construction, and the Massachusetts Building Trades to connect students and residents with career opportunities across the trades, architecture, engineering, and construction industries.

On Thursday, October 1, attendees had the opportunity to meet directly with employers, unions, and industry organizations to learn about jobs, apprenticeships, training programs, and other pathways into these growing fields.

“One of the best things we can do for our young people is show them how many opportunities are out there and give them a real path to reach them,” said Mayor Robert J. Van Campen. “A successful career doesn’t look the same for everyone. Whether someone chooses college, an apprenticeship, or goes directly into the workforce, I want Everett residents to have access to careers that allow them to earn a good living, support a family, and build their future right here in our community.”

Throughout the evening, students and residents were able to have one-on-one conversations with industry professionals, ask questions about different careers, and make connections that could help them take the next step toward a job or training opportunity.

“We were honored to host this large and dynamic career fair, where Everett High students and residents met with employers and union representatives to learn about jobs and training programs,” said Superintendent William D. Hart. “My thanks to Suffolk Construction and the Greater Boston Building Trades Unions for bringing this high-visibility event to our city, and to everyone in the Everett Public Schools who made sure the career fair was a success for everyone who participated.”

The event also included a panel discussion focused on the different pathways into careers in the trades. Everett High School Culinary Program students contributed to the evening by preparing baked goods and sweets for attendees.

The City of Everett is committed to helping residents access good-paying careers that can provide long-term stability and opportunities for growth. Careers in the building trades can offer competitive wages, comprehensive benefits, and opportunities to learn valuable skills while building a career.

“It was encouraging to see so many Everett students and residents come out to learn about careers in the trades,” said Pat Lucey, Suffolk President, Northeast and National Centers of Excellence. “Skilled trade professionals are essential to the work Suffolk does every day, and we’re proud to partner with the City of Everett and Superintendent Hart to help introduce more people to these rewarding career paths. I hope some of those who joined us will pursue an opportunity in the trades and, one day, be part of a Suffolk project team.”

For students considering what comes after high school and adults looking for a new career path, events like this provide a chance to see the opportunities available and speak directly with the people who can help them get started.

By bringing employers, unions, educators, and community members together for one event, the City hopes to make those opportunities more accessible to Everett residents and help more people build their futures close to home.
