The Everett High field hockey team earned its first win of the season with a 3-0 triumph over Greater Lowell Tech this past Monday.
“This was a great display of skill and teamwork,” said EHS head coach Nicola Jones. “Our team’s offensive prowess was on full display throughout the game, as they consistently pressured Greater Lowell’s defense and created numerous scoring opportunities.”
The Tide scored the first goal of the game in the early stages of the second quarter, when Ricardo Contreras Chacon scored with a well-placed shot that eluded Lowell’s keeper.
“This early strike set the tone for the rest of the game, as we continued to control the pace and dictate play,” said Jones.
Oliver Derozier doubled Everett’s lead in the fourth quarter when he found the back of the net with a powerful shot assisted by Stéphano Orleus. Captain Cephas Orleus sealed the deal with 30 seconds left by adding the team’s third goal to put the game out of reach.
“The team’s defense also played a key role in the victory, shutting down Greater Lowell’s offensive attempts and limiting their scoring chances,” said Jones.
“The victory was a testament to the team’s hard work and dedication,” said Jones. “Both on and off the field, all athletes were key players in this season’s first victory.”
Although the Crimson Tide came up short by a score of 3-1 in its season-opener with Hamilton-Wenham last Friday, Jones saw a lot of positives in her team’s performance.
“We had a strong start and solid play throughout the game, but we ultimately fell short,” said Jones.
Senior captain Cephas Orleus scored the Crimson Tide’s first goal of the season.
“Our goalie, Wilins Julien, and the defense held up strong,” said Jones, “Sophomore Pedro Marcellus stepped up this first game, leaving it all out on the field. Despite the loss, the team showed a lot of promise and we have a solid foundation to build on from this performance.”
The 2024 edition of the Crimson Tide will be led by a quartet of captains, seniors Cephas Orleus, Jasmine Salvador, and Jonathan Scioletti, and junior Lindsey Sylva. Other members of the squad are: seniors Isabela Lima, Luiza Velev, Olivier Derozier, and Ricardo Cointreras; juniors Anayha Sunsin, Jasmin Thrower, and Steohano Orleus; and sophomores Allia Polynice, Fenora Jean Coute, Justin Contreras, Kenzie Portillo, Keyla Hernandez Perlera, Paul Luigi, Pedro Marcellus, and Wilins Julien.
Jones and her crew were scheduled to make the long trek to Haverhill today (Wednesday). They will play at Malden on Friday before returning home to host Northeast Regional next Monday.
