Over the last two months, Chelsea School Committee Member Roberto Jimenez-Rivera has received a slew of endorsements from unions representing over 150,000 workers to win the newly created State Representative seat that includes a part of Everett. He is proud to have the support of workers across a wide range of industries, including education, telecommunications, government, healthcare, and grocery stores. “Many of these people are the frontline workers who make up a huge part of our community. They have kept our region running throughout this entire pandemic,” said Mr. Jimenez-Rivera. “They’re the driver of your local 111 bus, the second grade teacher at the Keverian School in Everett and the Kelly School in Chelsea, and the person stocking groceries at Stop & Shop. I’m grateful for their support and look forward to empowering working families together.”
“Roberto is a leader who has already shown that he will fight for public education and work tirelessly to support and empower working families,” said MTA President Merrie Najimy. “He centers racial, economic and gender justice in his grassroots advocacy. Now more than ever, we need champions like Roberto at the State House.”
“Roberto is a trusted member of our community. He is someone who works for the community and not for his own benefit,” said Enio Lopez, member of SEIU 888 at the Chelsea Soldiers’ Home and Chelsea City Councilor for District 1.
Mr. Jiménez-Rivera has been endorsed or supported by eight different unions, more than all of his opponents combined. They include the following:
• Boston Carmens’ Local 589, representing MBTA bus drivers, train operators, and maintenance workers
• United Food and Commercial Workers Local (UFCW) 1445, which represents workers in the cannabis industry, grocery stores, laundries, and warehouses
• Mass Teachers Association (MTA), representing over 115,000 members, including educators from the City of Everett
• American Federation of Teachers-Massachusetts (AFT-MA), representing over 23,000 educators in K-12 and higher education across the state
• Chelsea Teachers Union
• Boston Teachers Union, which also represents over 5,000 retirees
• IBEW Local 2222, representing telecommunications and tech workers, as well as the staff at the State House
• SEIU Local 888, representing municipal and state employees as well as Healthcare employees
In addition to his support from labor unions, Roberto has been endorsed by the National Association of Social Workers-MA PACE, and environmental organizations like the Sierra Club and the Environmental League of Massachusetts.
