Fall II Sports Spring Into Action for EHS Athletes

With the pandemic-shortened winter sports season having come to a conclusion, the so-called Fall II season for the Greater Boston League got underway this week.

The Everett High girls and boys soccer teams got underway with contests against Revere this past Saturday. On the girls’ side, Everett came up short by a score of 7-1, with junior Gitalia Boyce scoring the EHS goal.

“We have had many factors through the past few weeks,” noted EHS head coach DeAnn Gallagher, “but considering that we played hard, it can only get better.”

Gallgher and her crew were scheduled to play Medford yesterday (Tuesday) and will host Malden tomorrow (Thursday) for a 10 a.m. kickoff at 7 Acre Park.

On Saturday the Crimson Tide will play at Chelsea, also at 10:00, and then will entertain Lynn Classical next Tuesday.

Members of the 2021 Crimson Tide are: seniors Isadora Pimenta and Katrina Nguyen; juniors Gitalia Boyce, Leticia Zavala Ayala, Stephanie Azurdia, Cynthia Domingues, Mariana Madrigal, and Tania Ventura Tejada; sophomores Maria Paula Zubieta Numpaque, Leah Ferullo, Simon Shrestha, Lamiah Wyzard, Emily Pereira, and Karla Lopez Inares; and freshmen Layla Isabell Betancur-Cardona, Joselyn Rivera, and Shyann Ambersley.

Assisting Gallagher on the sidelines will be assistant coaches Caitlyn Winsor and Sheryl Steeves, both of whom are EHS alumni.

On the boys’ side, the Crimson Tide came up short in their opener with Revere by a score of 6-0. Coach Pedro Blas and his crew will play at Malden tomorrow (Thursday) and will entertain Chelsea on Saturday. They will trek to Lynn Classical next Tuesday.

Coach Melissa O’Donnell and her EHS field hockey team will engage in their first contest of the season today (Wednesday) at 10 a.m. at 7 Acre Park.

The 2021 Crimson Tide will be led by captains Ashley Fitzgerald, Hailey Oteir, Kaleigh Snook, and Keara Farrell and assistant captains Mimi Le and Rebecca Covelle.

The team will play at Revere next Wednesday.

Coach Steven Gallagher and the EHS golf team already have hit the links with a pair of tri-matches against GBL foes Malden & Revere and Lynn Classical & Lynn English.

“We have a very short season this year, but the kids are excited to learn the game and get on the course and play,” said Gallagher. “Hopefully we can gain some momentum for the start of the regular fall season in September.”

Members of the team are senior captain Alyssa Bessler, senior Brendan Currie, and sophomores Alex Velasco and Matthew Turilli. They are scheduled to be back in action against non-league rival Winthrop on April 26.
