EHS Seniors Reflect on Lost Season and What Sports Has Meant to Them

The senior season for any high school athlete always is highly-anticipated. The seniors typically are at the height of their physical and athletic abilities. In addition, as seniors, they will have the opportunity to be leaders for their younger teammates.

The Everett Independent invited the athletes from the Everett High Class of 2020 to reflect upon what would have been their final season in a Crimson Tide uniform — but which so abruptly was taken away from them by the coronavirus — as well as to discuss how their years as athletes shaped their high school experience.

Following, in their own words, are their comments:

Boys Tennis Capt.

“This entire situation came as a shock…”

Being an athlete at Everett High School has certainly been one of my fondest memories. I can say for sure that my time on the Everett tennis team has been one of the highlights of my high school career. As captain of the boys varsity tennis team, I’ve made many connections that I wouldn’t have.

I’m speaking for everyone when I say that this entire situation came as a shock. I was looking forward to another successful year and an improvement on our accomplishments from the previous one.

Seldom do I see such a hardworking and dedicated group of teammates who are dedicated to topping their previous efforts. While there certainly isn’t much we can do now, I do want to give a shout-out to coach Bluestein and Mr. Gallagher, as well as my teammates, for the wonderful times.

“I owe thanks to my teammates, coaches”

Throughout my four years at Everett High School, being an athlete undoubtedly changed who I was, and shaped my sedentary lifestyle to a healthy one.

I have learned many things about the importance of character and dedication by being a high school athlete in Everett.  I am particularly proud of being part of our diverse community and how we come together and compete as one. I am extremely sad for the loss of my last crew season. However, I’ll be forever grateful for everything that Everett High School has provided for me during these past four years. I owe my thanks to my teammates, coaches, and teachers who supported and helped me to achieve great things by allowing me to reach my potential.
