Everett Ride-Share Driver Accused of Sexual Assault in Boston

An Everett man operating on a ride-share service was arraigned in Roxbury District Court on Monday for sexual assault.

Ranjan Thapa, 26, of Everett, was arraigned in Roxbury Municipal Court Monday and held on a $10,000 cash bail by Judge Kenneth Fiandaca, who also ordered the defendant to surrender his passport and stay away from the victim if he posts that amount and granted a protective order keeping the victim’s personal information confidential.

Thapa was arrested by Boston Police early Sunday morning for an alleged sexual assault on a passenger.

Thapa was operating a ride-share car that was stopped by Northeastern University Police on Hemenway Street; their observations of the female passenger and subsequent investigation by BPD Sexual Assault Unit detectives established probable cause to charge him with rape.

His next court date is April 17.
