Mayor DeMaria issues statement on Wynn Boston Harbor
Dear Editor,
The $2.4 billion development, the largest private development underway in all of New England, is creating real jobs for Everett residents- 4,000 construction jobs and 4,600 jobs when the casino opens. I fought for this development because of the opportunity it offers to Everett residents for jobs that have career ladders to allow employees to progress, and earn strong wages to support their families.
In addition to a world-class entertainment facility, the resort will also serve as a vital bridge to return Everett to the waterfront- with walkways and open space along the river to allow residents to enjoy the Mystic, once cut off by industry.
This project has included the environmental remediation of their site on Lower Broadway, as well as the remediation of parts of the Mystic River, which will soon be completed; both had sat deeply contaminated for decades.
The Massachusetts’s Gaming Commission continues its suitability review, a component of the licensing process. I want to thank the commission for acting quickly. My hope is that they can move as efficiently as possible to ensure the resort opens on time as one of the largest employers in the region.
Mayor Carlo DeMaria
