Another Super Saturday for Everett Football Fans

Is it the biggest game in the proud history of Everett High School football?

We’ll leave that to the historians but everything points to Saturday’s Division 1 Super Bowl showdown between North champion Everett High School and South champion Xaverian High School as a game that belongs in a special category all by itself.

Everett High fans won’t have to travel far to see it as Manning Field in Lynn will be the site of the game that will decide which team is the best in Massachusetts for the 2016 season.

Just getting to the Super Bowl is a momentous achievement. As MIAA Associate Director Peter Smith told the Everett and Xaverian players at the Football State Championship Breakfast at MIAA headquarters in Franklin Monday, there are 320 MIAA member schools in Massachusetts and only the very best get to play for a state championship.

In the case of Everett and Xaverian, there are other factors that make this showdown so captivating.

Following Duxbury’s loss on Thanksgiving, Xaverian and Everett are ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the polls. The Division 1 Super Bowl championship trophy – emblematic of being the best team in Massachusetts – will be the prize for the winner of Saturday’s game.

A capacity crowd is expected at the game. Supt. of Schools Frederick Foresteire has arranged for fan buses that will leave Everett High School at 11 a.m. And in the extras that make the Everett High football program the best in the Bay State, there will be a hospitality tent sponsored by Wynn Boston Harbor in the Manning Field parking lot and a post-game party at the Silver Fox sponsored by the Crimson Tide Football Booster Club.

We congratulate Supt. of Schools Frederick Foresteire, head coach John DiBiaso and his coaching staff, and the Everett players on what has been an exciting and memorable season to-date and we wish the Crimson Tide good luck as they seek to bring the state championship trophy back to our city.

If you are an Everett resident, an Everett High School alumnus, or a fan of the best that high school sports has to offer, there is only one place to be Saturday afternoon – and that place is Manning Field in Lynn.
