The Parents Action Committee of Everett (PACE) continues to collaborate with local businesses to reach Everett parents and offer innovative tools and resources to start conversations with their children about making good choices and avoiding risky behaviors.
Through the Power of 6, a self-directed campaign created by PACE, families can participate in six easy activities that parents and kids can do together to help prevent underage drinking.
This month PACE and new partner, Sky Zone Everett, encourage families to take advantage of the cold and snowy days and nights during February vacation to plan activities that center around “family game time.” Parents and caregivers looking for a fun family activity can come to Sky Zone during the weekend of February 20th -21st to celebrate youth wellness through high-energy fun. Mention or use the coupon code ‘PACE’ to get a $2 discount or FREE pair of Sky Zone sox.
Marci Marino, PACE parent coordinator, is thrilled to have Sky Zone as a new partner.
“Sky Zone is a natural partner for PACE,” she said. “Their belief in encouraging positive behaviors, such as being healthy and active, aligns perfectly with our mission. We are very excited about collaborating with them and hope to see many Everett families take part in this fun opportunity.”
Family Game Night is an enjoyable way to spend time together and to strengthen family bonds. Games offer opportunities for kids to understand the importance of rules, practice cooperation, exercise good decision-making, and have fun.
As part of the Power of 6 campaign, www.everettparents.org offers examples of educational games that initiate family conversation around alcohol use. Children and parents can test their knowledge with Fact or Fiction, work together or on separate teams to complete our Crossword Puzzle, or use the links to access the many online educational games for kids and teens. Learn more about Game Night promotion on the PACE website at http://www.everettparents.org or www.skyzone.com/everett.
PACE is a group of parents of middle school students in Everett who are taking a stand against underage drinking, smoking and substance use by teens in our community. PACE was founded in 2013 as a program of Cambridge Health Alliance and the Everett Community Health Partnership- Substance Abuse Coalition (ECHP-SAC) and has collaborated with the City of Everett, Everett Public Schools and local businesses to support families in talking with their children about making healthy choices and avoiding risky behaviors such as alcohol and other drug use.
In the upcoming months, look for PACE’s other Power of 6 activities: Host a Movie Night and Participate in an Outdoor Activity.
All of the Power of 6 resources are available for free in English, Spanish, and Portuguese.
