One can seldom pick up a newspaper or listen to the radio or television news without hearing about the opioid crisis that is afflicting so many people in so many communities. Wealthier communities than Everett are struggling with this problem.
That is why no one should consider the opioid crisis as peculiar only to Everett. To ignore this crisis is like an ostrich sticking its head in the sand to avoid danger.
Councilor Anthony DiPierro is to be commended for taking the initiative to establish a committee to review what strategies other cities are doing to fight this crisis.
DiPierro’s fellow councilors recognized the importance of this motion and approved it unanimously. Council President John Hanlon has promised to name the four members to the new committee quickly.
We cannot stress enough with local lives in danger almost daily that we do not have time to waste. We commend the Council for recognizing this fact too.
