ECG is growing

Everett Community Growers (ECG) is pleased to announce the start of its expanded 2015 growing season. We are a group of Everett residents under the leadership of the Everett Community Health Partnership who strive to create healthy neighborhoods by increasing food security and self-sufficiency for families in Everett.

We have over 40 families and community groups participating in our community garden program, and we are expanding from running one community garden (the Florence Street Community Garden) to three.  We are underway in building approximately 20 new garden plots at our newest location in front of 80-90 Tremont Street, as well as planning a community growing space for community groups in front of the old EHS.  Building and maintaining these gardens takes a lot of resources – wood, soil, tools and other equipment and supplies to make these spaces beautiful, healthy and happy for our growers and neighbors!

Our goal is to not only offer space for Everett residents to grow their own fresh healthy food, but also to bring people together to celebrate the diverse ethnic and socio-economic fabric of our great City.  In our community gardens on Florence Street and Tremont Street we have residents who speak 6 different languages and come from many different countries, and we all learn so much from one another – new words, new foods and new traditions.  The success of our efforts has led to many more residents wanting community gardens in their neighborhoods, and we want to make that happen in 2015!

Please help us on our journey to growing our community one garden at a time with a donation today. We have a Crowdrise fundraising page online where donations of any amount can be made: https://www.crowdrise.com/everettcommunitygrowers/fundraiser/lacomunidadinc

Additionally, check donations can be made out to our fiscal sponsor, La Comunidad, Inc., a 501(c)3 non-profit organization working to provide a better future to the Latino-American community in the city of Everett and surrounding areas. Please mail checks to Everett Community Growers, 391 Broadway, Suite 204, Office 133, Everett, MA 02149.

Thank you for your consideration. We truly hope readers will consider making a donation and helping Everett Community Growers grow!
