George Sarro Jr.

East Boston resident

George A. Sarro Jr. of East Boston died on September 28.

He was the beloved son of Isabel (Hyde) and the late George A Sarro Sr.; father of George A. Sarro III and Michael Sarro, both of East Boston; brother of Letty Morello of Revere, Isabel Holding of East Boston, Daniel T. of Everett, Carmen J. of Peabody and the late Joseph T. Sarro. He is also survived by many grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

His Funeral will be held from the Magrath Funeral Home, 325 Chelsea St. [at Day Square] East Boston on Thursday, October 1 at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in the Sacred Heart Church at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Visiting hours are today, Wednesday, September 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. Burial will be in Puritan Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations to the family would be appreciated.

 

Jane Read Waggett, 48

Canton resident

Jane Read (Malone) Waggett of Canton, formerly of Dedham, died on September 25. She was 48 years old.

She was the beloved wife of Michael Patrick Waggett; loving mother of Henry Read Waggett of Canton; loving sister of JoAnne Mulligan and her husband, Joseph, of So. Walpole, John Malone and his wife, Catherine, of Walpole, Nancy Malone of Quincy, Dana Malone and his fiancé, Laurie Picardi, of Everett; loving daughter of the late John L. and Janette (Walker) Malone and loving aunt of John, Elizabeth and Caroline Malone, Rory and Michael Mulligan.

Her Funeral will be held from the George F. Doherty and Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St., Dedham, today, Wednesday, at 10:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary’s Church, Dedham at 10:30 am. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Visitation will be held prior to the Mass from 8:30 to 10:15 a.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, West Roxbury. Josephine Hopkins, 87

Longtime Waitress at the European Restaurant in the North End

Josephine (Napolitano) Hopkins died at a local nursing home on September 24 after a period of failing health. She was 87 years old.

Born in Boston, she was as a waitress at the famous European Restaurant in the North End of Boston for many years and was a long time resident of the Whitney-Lorenti House.

She was the beloved wife of the late Chester Hopkins and loving mother of Steven and his wife, Joyce DeVore, of Revere and the late Christine; sister of Viola Mancuso and Rosaria “Nira” Napolitano, both of Everett, and the late Philip and Rose. She is also survived by her granddaughter Amanda-Leigh Hopkins.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Murphy-O’Hara Funeral Home, Everett. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery.

 

Ronald Cali

Retired US Airways Agent

Ronald V. Cali of Saugus died on September 19.

A US Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, he was a retired agent for U.S. Airways.

He was the beloved husband of the late Jessie Louise Knox-Cali; father of Shawn and his wife, Anna, of Revere; stepfather of Andy Knox and his wife, Patty, of Maine, Tracy Oliphant and her husband, Jeff, and Stephanie Levesque and her husband, Steven, all of New Hampshire; son of Joan of Everett and the late James; brother of Jim and his wife, Chickie, of Boston, Rose Melzer of Everett and Judy Barbato and her husband, Joe, of Florida. He is also survived by six grandchildren.

Rae Foley, 57

Registered Nurse

Rae H. Foley of Stoneham died peacefully on September 21 after a brief illness with Pulmonary Fibrosis. She was 57 years old.

Born in Chelsea to Martha and Alfred Levy, she was a graduate of Everett High School, Class of 1970. She worked as a Registered Nurse for many years at the Whidden Hospital in Everett and at the Malden Hospital. She later worked as a case manager for Blue Cross and Blue Shield and was working in a similar role at the Whidden Hospital at the time of her death. She loved taking long drives with her husband, Edward "Buster" Foley, and their dog, Max. She looked forward to summers at LSVR, lazing in the sun and playing cards with her closest friends. She loved the Cape, where she spent time with her sister, Kathy, niece Lindsey and nephew, Michael. She enjoyed traveling to visit her daughter, Stacey, son-in-law Ron and her two grandchildren, Jordan, age eight and Ally, age eight months, in Nashville, Tennessee. Most recently, she found pleasure in helping her daughter, Shannon, and son-in-law to be, Chris, plan and prepare for their summer wedding.

A celebration of her life is planned for October 3 at 1 p.m. at her home at 16 Kenneth Terrace, Stoneham. Milina Caezza, 86

Everett resident

Milina (Belmonte) Caezza of Everett died at Brigham & Women’s Hospital on September 25. She was 86 years old.

A homemaker, born in Avellino, Italy, she was the beloved wife of Ernest A. Caezza; dear and devoted mother of Catherine M. Richard and her husband, Robert, of N. Reading, Anthony G. Caezza and his wife, Christine, of Dracut and Joseph E. Caezza of Methuen; sister of Gine M. Morel of Scituate and the late Leo A. Belmonte; loving grandmother of Bobby Richard, Nick and Kimberly Caezza, Adam, Noah and Benjamin Caezza.

Phyllis Farrell, 93

Former Everett School Cafeteria Employee

Phyllis M. (Bartolo) Farrell of Everett, formerly of East Boston, died on September 24. She was in her 93rd year.

A 1933 graduate of East Boston High School, she worked for the Downing Chocolate Co. and was a former Everett School System cafeteria employee.

The beloved wife of the late John P. Farrell with whom she shared 46 years of marriage, she was the loving mother of Barbara Rizzo and her husband, Frank, of Lynn and Dennis P. Farrell and his wife, Jane, of New Hampshire; dear sister of the late Louise Amicone, Romeo, Michael, Andrew and Leo Bartolo; cherished grandmother of Steven Rizzo and his wife, Tracy, Sandy Rizzo, Shawn Farrell and his wife, Alyson, Kelly Trumpatori and her husband, Brian, Michael Farrell and his wife, Jessica, and four great-grandchildren.

Owen Knight

Lifelong Everett resident

Owen N. Knight, a lifelong of Everett, died on September 22.

A US Navy veteran of World War II, he was the loving brother of Thelma Massey of Malden and the late Frank, Irving, Grantlin, Edna, and DeLacy Knight; beloved son of the late Joseph N. and Louise J. (Boyce) Knight and is survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

Beverly (Leather) Harrington, a longtime Everett resident, died on September 22. She was 77 years old.

A long time employee of the City of Everett, she was the beloved daughter of the late Lawrence and Emma Leather; former wife of Edmund Harrington; loving mother of John Harrington of Malden, Edmund Harrington of Rockville, MD, and Christopher Harrington of Tulsa, OK; loving sister of Harry K. Leather of Effingham, NH and cherished grandmother of Alexandria and Daniel Harrington.

Andrew P. Scibilia of Revere died unexpectedly on September 19.

Nancy Casali, 90

Everett resident

Nancy M. (Schena) Casali of Everett died on September 20 with her family by her side. She was 90 years old.

She was the beloved wife of the late John L. Casali and loving mother of John J. Casali of Saugus, Ronald P. Casali and his wife, Mary, of Wakefield and Barbara J. Casali of Maine; loving grandmother to Jennifer and Christine Casali; dear sister of Patrick Schena of Everett and Michael Schena of Revere. She was also the sister of the late Frank, Florence and Carmella. She is survived by loving nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
