The Everett City Council unanimously approved a resolution offered by Ward 6 Councilor Peter Pientrantonio at its Sept. 14 meeting expressing its support for Locals 25 and 26 [Teamsters and UNITE HERE labor unions] “to receive new contracts from Encore Boston Harbor that provide the union members with better wages and healthcare benefits.”

More than 1,300 workers have been on strike at the 5-star resort/casino since Sept. 4, 2026.

“About four weeks ago, I got an email from a gentleman about Encore Boston Harbor not negotiating in good faith,” said Pietrantonio. “I’m hoping that we can support Local 25 and 26. We have about 500 workers that live in Everett and are looking for fair wages.”

At the conclusion of his remarks, Pietrantonio received sustained applause from the many workers in attendance at the Council meeting.

Following the 11-0 vote in favor of the resolution, Council President Stephanie Smith proclaimed, “The Everett City Council supports Local 25 and Local 26.”

Ward 1 Councilor Michele Capone thanked Pietrantonio “for putting this item on the agenda.”

The Council also approved a motion by Ward 2 Councilor Stephanie Martins to send the resolution to Encore Boston Harbor officials.
