The City of Everett partnered with the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association (CCBA) of New England to host the second annual Boston Mini 9-Man Volleyball Invitational at Rivergreen Park on August 1 and 2, welcoming more than 20 teams and hundreds of athletes for a weekend of spirited competition.

Despite temperatures climbing into the 90s, players competed through two days of fast-paced matches that showcased the athleticism, teamwork, and endurance that define the unique sport of 9-man volleyball. Family members, residents, and spectators lined the courts throughout the weekend, cheering on competitors and creating an energetic atmosphere at Rivergreen Park.

The tournament celebrated the rich history of 9-man volleyball, a sport with deep roots in Chinese culture that has been played in Chinese American communities for generations. Today, it continues to bring together athletes of all ages while strengthening community connections through sport.

“I was so captivated by the dedication and grit of these players,” said Mayor Robert J. Van Campen. “Competing in that kind of heat takes incredible determination, and it was inspiring to watch. We are proud to partner with the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association to bring this tournament to Everett and celebrate a tradition that means so much to so many members of our community.”

The men’s championship was won by Rising Tide, which successfully defended its title after an impressive weekend of competition.

City officials joined community leaders and organizers throughout the tournament to congratulate participating teams and recognize the dedication of the volunteers who helped make the event possible.
