EHS girls tennis defeats Lowell
The weather held up just enough last week to allow the Everett High girls tennis team to get in two of its three scheduled matches, finishing the stretch with a 1-1 record.
“Despite a tough loss to Malden, the girls bounced back with an impressive win over Lowell, showing determination, growth, and resilience across the board,” said EHS head coach Courtney Meninger.
“We faced a competitive Malden team on Wednesday and, while the scoreline doesn’t reflect it, the match was filled with hard-fought points and strong efforts from our players,” Meninger said.
At first singles, Tracy Pham battled through a challenging match, ultimately falling 3-6, 3-6. At second singles, Nga Ho pushed her opponent to the limit before dropping a tight 3-6, 5-7 match. Jessica Du rounded out singles play with a 0-6, 5-7 loss at third.
In doubles, Kelly St. Forte and Khadiza Nishat teamed up for first doubles (0-6, 0-6), while Anne Souza and Sophia Melo fought hard in second doubles (3-6, 2-6).
“Despite the final result, the team gained momentum heading into the next day’s match,” noted Meninger. “On Thursday, the girls came out strong, energized, and focused, earning a convincing 4-1 win against Lowell.”
Tracy Pham once again led the team at first singles, battling through a close match and displaying incredible grit, though she ultimately came up short, 4-6, 4-6.
“Tracy’s tennis IQ and growing confidence continue to impress, and she leads by example every time she steps on the court,” said Meninger.
Nga Ho was dominant at second singles, winning in commanding fashion 6-1, 6-2.
“Nga’s continued development — especially her slice serve — has become a real asset to her game,” Meninger said.
At third singles, Jessica Du delivered a composed 7-5, 6-1 victory. “Having transitioned from doubles to singles this season, Jess’s hard work and confidence are clearly paying off,” Meninger noted.
Doubles play was where the Lady Tide really shined. At first doubles, Khadiza Nishat and Kelly St. Forte played in perfect sync, cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 win.
“Kelly’s lethal backhand and Khadiza’s sharp net play proved too much for their opponents,” Meninger said.
“Second doubles saw Anne Souza and Sophia Melo drop the first set 1-6, but they were able to quickly regroup, which isn’t something that is easy to do,” Meinger said. “They stormed back to take the next two sets 6-2, 6-1. Their confidence and composure in the comeback were exactly what you hope for as a coach.”
Meninger and her crew, who stand at 4-8 on the season, were scheduled to host Saugus yesterday (Tuesday) in a contest that was to be highlighted by Senior Day festivities and will travel to Lynn Classical today (Wednesday.
“I am proud of the progress the players have made and am excited to finish the season strong,” Meninger added.
EHS softball falls to Lowell
The Everett High softball team dropped its lone contest last week (two games were postponed because of the rainy weather), falling at non-league rival Lowell, 11-5.
The Tide scored a run in the top of the first when Arianna Osorio-Bonilla reached on an error and scored on a double by Alexa Uga.
However, Lowell quickly moved ahead thanks to a three-run homer in the bottom of the inning. The Lady Raiders made it 4-1 in the second, though the Everett defense made two nice plays in the inning. The first came when right fielder Ashley Seward caught a fly ball and doubled-up a Lowell base runner at second and the other when catcher Kassidy Rivera gunned out a Lady Raider at second on an attempted steal.
Everett got that one back in the third when Rivera led off with a walk and moved to second on a base hit by Osorio-Bonilla. After Olivia Dresser walked to load the bases, Rivera scored on a two-out hit by Mia Allen to make it 4-2.
Everett then moved ahead with three runs in the fourth. Peyton Warren led off with a double, Rivera singled, and Osorio-Bonilla was safe on first on an error in the outfield, scoring Warren. Seward then came through with a clutch, two-out, two-run triple to make it 5-4.
However, Lowell responded with two markers in the bottom of the frame to regain the lead, 6-5, and then added two more in the fifth and three in the sixth for the 11-5 finale.
“We showed some good fight in the middle innings, especially with players like Ashley Seward and Peyton Warren stepping up offensively,” said EHS head coach Stacey Poste-Schiavo., “but we gave away too many extra outs and it cost us. Peyton battled through seven innings on the mound, but defensively we didn’t do enough behind her to support that effort. With our upcoming games, it’s important that we tighten up our fundamentals and bring more consistency in all areas.”
Warren tossed all six frames, allowing eight hits and walking five with two strikeouts.
The Lady Crimson Tide, who stand at 10-3 on the season and who already have punched their ticket for a Journey to the Tourney, have a busy week: They were scheduled to host Somerville this past Monday; travel to Lynn English yesterday (Tuesday); entertain Revere this evening (Wednesday) in a contest that will be highlighted by Senior Night festivities; and trek to Lynn Classical Friday. They will travel to Medford next Monday and to Swampscott next Wednesday before concluding their season with a home game vs. Lowell next Thursday.

Coach Jehu Cimea and both teams were scheduled to compete in this past Monday’s Greater Boston League Championship Meet.
EHS boys volleyball needs two more wins
With the Everett High boys volleyball team standing at 8-7 as it enters the final quarter of its 2025 season, the Crimson Tide will need to win two of their final five matches in order to achieve the .500 record that is needed to punch their ticket for a Journey to the Tourney.
Coach Michael Fineran and hew crew split its two matches last week against the Lynn schools. Last Monday the Tide trekked to Lynn Classical, a team whom Everett had defeated in their first meeting, 3-1. However, the Rams turned the tables on the Tide in the rematch to claim a 3-0 win.
“Unfortunately, we did not bring our ‘A’ game and we got swept 3-0,” said Fineran. “It was a disappointing result and it makes the road to the postseason that much tougher for us. Each of the five teams remaining on our schedule have beaten us already or have higher seeds in the MIAA’s power rankings. It will take a lot more focus and intensity than we brought against Classical, which is why I was happy to see us open the match against Lynn English at home Wednesday with a 25-6 rout in the first set.”
Eleven straight service points, including three aces in a row, from junior captain Christian Ramirez gave Everett a commanding 16-3 lead. Senior captain Bryan Soares Gomes served the final five points of the set, including three aces of his own.
Untimely missed serves and an injury to senior middle Caleb Jackson gave Lynn English life in the second set, with the Bulldogs taking the set, 25-21, but Soares Gomes and senior captain Henrique Franca combined for 12 kills, two aces, and five service points in the third set. Senior Matheus Queiroz had one of his three blocks in the set and served the final point to cap off a 25-14 win.
In the fourth set, Franca had a monster performance with nine kills and two aces. Soares Gomes had three kills and an ace. Ramirez served match point, 25-22, to clinch the 3-1 win.
The Tide begin their stretch run today (Wednesday) at Revere and Friday at Somerville. Next week they will host Medford on Monday, Arlington on Tuesday, and Lowell on Friday.
EHS girls lacrosse celebrates Sr. Night
Even though the scoreboard at Thursday’s Everett High lacrosse game read 18-2 in favor of Somerville, “The team put in a strong effort and generated several chances to score,” said EHS head coach Nicola Jones. Seniors Trinh Dang and Victoria Rodrigues found the back of the Somerville net to account for the Everett goals.
On the defensive end, Jones noted that Lindsey Cherichel-Paul and Nicole Damaceno turned in fine efforts as key parts of the Tide’s defensive game.
“The evening also served as a wonderful celebration for our seven seniors, #22 Emily Acacio, #10 Kadwina Alcin, #17 Ludmila Bassani, #5 Belma Ikanovic, #6 Kayleigh McMahon, #2 Trinh Dang, and #1 Victoria Rodrigues,” said Jones. “This group of individuals are some of the most fabulous, hardworking, and caring women that I have had the pleasure of knowing and the honor of coaching. Each of them will be truly missed on the team, but we all are so excited to see where their bright futures lead them.”
Jones and her crew were scheduled to play at Melden yesterday (Tuesday) and at Revere tomorrow (Thursday). They will host Lowell next Monday, Medford next Tuesday, and Malden next Friday.
“We are looking forward to yet another week of playing the game we love!” noted Jones.
Key stretch for EHS baseball
The Everett High baseball team will face a key stretch of contests in the coming week as coach Malik Love and his crew strive to qualify for the post-season state tournament.
The Crimson Tide stand at 7-8 after shutout losses to Lynn English (1-0) and Somerville (13-0) this past week. They will need to win three of their final five games in order to finish with the .500 record needed to punch their ticket for a Journey to the Tourney.
“We just need to focus on our execution,” said head coach Malik Love. “We’ve seen some good pitching recently and we need to learn to make adjustments at the plate in order to put the ball in play.
“On the defensive end, it seems one error can lead to two and then the game gets away from us,” Love added.
“But we’ve had a lot of positives this year,” Love continued. “We saw great signs early in the season. When we won our seventh game, that equaled as many wins as we had all last season.
“Right now it’s all about finishing strong and executing to the best of our ability,” the coach added. “Any more wins will be a plus, and making the tournament is the goal. But at the same time, it’s also about seeing the team’s growth and having fun on the baseball field.”
The Tide were scheduled to travel to Revere today (Wednesday) and will host Lynn Classical on Friday and Medford on Monday. They will travel to Malden next Thursday and close out the season with Senior Day next Friday, May 23, against Greater Lawrence.
