The Pioneer Charter School of Science boys basketball program held its awards banquet April 2 in the school cafeteria in Everett.
Head coach Michael D’Itria started the tradition of season-ending banquets following his inaugural season last year.
This season’s awards night was again a huge success with the players, parents, and coaches enjoying a delicious buffet-style dinner and desserts followed by the presentation of individual honors to the student-athletes on the varsity and junior varsity teams.
Coach D’Itria began his remarks by thanking the parents for their commitment and support of the basketball program and lauding the players for their attendance at all practices during the season.
“That says something about the kids, but it says something about the parents as well,” said D’Itria.
The players responded with applause of gratitude for their parents.
D’Itria also thanked the assistant coaches, Calvin Boudreau and Marcus Brunson, for their leadership and dedication to the program.
Special recognition was accorded to three graduating seniors, Abderrahmane Boutemtam, Jayden Lainez, and Edlin Metellus.
The PCSS contingent improved its record this season, finishing 8-12 overall. The future looks bright with several talented players returning to the program next season.
Coach D’Itria has brought a winning atmosphere, a commitment to excellence, and a key emphasis on off-season preparation to the Pioneer Charter School of Science, which is noted for its outstanding academic programs.
