EHS boys set sights on tourney

The Everett High boys basketball team was scheduled to make the long trek westward down the MassPike to Worcester to take on North High School this past Monday. The teams had been scheduled to meet last Thursday, but the contest was postponed because of the snowstorm.

Coach Gerry Boyce and his crew, whose record stood at 8-9 before the North contest, need to win two of their final three contests if they want to punch their ticket for a Journey to the Tourney. Teams need to achieve a .500 record for inclusion in the post-season MIAA state tourney.

The Crimson Tide will conclude their 2025 regular season this coming weekend in the Dudley Davenport Tourney at Sharon High School on Sunday and Monday.

EHS girls hoop battling to the end

Although the Everett High girls basketball team has come up short in its past few contests, EHS head coach Riley Dunn has been pleased with her squad’s effort.

In a 61-44 loss to Greater Boston League rival Somervlle, Clarice Alexis led the Lady Crimson Tide with 15 points.

Last Saturday in the EHS gym, senior captain Emilia Maria Babcock was the leading scorer for Everett with 16 points in a 47-28 loss to non-league foe Brookline. In a contest  with GBL opponent Malden last Tuesday that was highlighted by Senior Night festivities, the Lady Crimson Tide came up short, 50-18. Gerniah Boyce turned in a strong effort with six points and six rebounds.

This past Friday, the Tide fell by a score of 50-37 to Lynn Classical.

“It was a tough, but hard-fought loss,” said Dunn. “We really saw some fight in all the girls. Our bench stepped up when people got in foul trouble. We fought until the end.”

Senior captain Emilia Maria Babcock led the Tide with 12 points and pulled down six rebounds in three quarters of play. Julianna Rivera hit for double figures with 10 points to go along with two assists and three boards. Nicole Damaceno, “who worked relentlessly on defense,” said Dunn, notched four points and hauled in 12 rebounds.

“We’re looking to keep building and keep fighting as we finish the season strong,” said Dunn.

The Lady Crimson Tide were scheduled to meet GBL rival Revere last night (Tuesday)  and will entertain non-league opponent Lowell tomorrow (Thursday) evening for a 6:30 opening tip. They will travel to two more non-league foes, Gloucester next Tuesday and Marblehead next Thursday to wrap up their 2025 campaign.
