More than 200 friends, supporters and colleagues gathered at the Village Bar & Grille last week for a reception in support of State Representative Joe McGonagle. While introducing McGonagle, Speaker of the Massachusetts House of Representatives, Robert DeLeo said “Joe was one of the first members of his class to be chosen as a member of leadership as the Vice Chair of Housing. He chose housing because of its importance to his constituents.” The Speaker went on to say “Now more than ever, we need a steady hand up at the state house to represent Everett. I can’t think of anyone better to continue that than Joe McGonagle.”
“Joe McGonagle has changed the way Everett is looked at in the House of Representatives”, said House Majority Leader Ron Mariano. “I worked in the House when George Keverian was the Speaker – an Everett guy through and through. Joe follows those footsteps”, he added.
Joe McGonagle has quickly restored the respect and integrity the people of Everett deserve in the House of Representatives. The State Representative has knocked on thousands of doors this campaign and spends most of his evenings meeting constituents at their doorsteps.
“Taking the knowledge you learn on the doorsteps back to the State House is how you make government work for everybody and it has made be a better representative” said McGonagle. “When you re-elect me on September 4th, I’ll continue to work my heart out for Everett”, McGonagle continued.
In his first two terms, McGonagle has worked to ensure that Everett gets the resources and funding it deserves from the State House. Working with leaders like Speaker Bob DeLeo, State Sen. Sal DiDomenico, and Everett Mayor Carlo DeMaria, McGonagle has secured over $1 million for programs such as workforce training, funding to revitalize Everett’s waterfront, and other local services.
The Democratic Primary for State Representative will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 4. With no Republican or Independent candidates on the ballot, the primary will decide the winner.
