Mayor Carlo DeMaria was happy to meet with Gloria M. Gavris recently, a former Everett resident who wrote a children’s book on civic engagement. E is for Election Day introduces basic government ideas to children. Each page includes a letter and a government term to accompany it – such as B for Ballots and G for Grassroots Efforts.
“This book is an excellent tool for young children to learn about how their government works,” said Mayor DeMaria. “It is important that we are raising our kids to be knowledgeable and understanding of what is going on in the world around them.”
Gavris worked in the Massachusetts House of Representatives as a House Page before becoming a lobbyist and then a lawyer. She grew up in the City of Everett and assisted family members in various campaigns for mayor, City alderman and Massachusetts state senator.
E for Election Day is now on sale in the Massachusetts State House Bookstore as well as online, at eisforelectionday.com.
